Wedding Functions
I attended 2 wedding functions on Saturday and it was quite an experience. The first was at Swissotel and it was the first time i ever attended a wedding LUNCH of this magnitude. Too bad I had to rush back to school early cos it was a Saturday and the school was really busy. My mum told me the desserts were the best.
But I guess the wedding dinner I attended later on in the day bore more significance for me. The bride, Sulyn, is a family friend and amazingly, 20 years ago, she was one of the flower girls while I was one of the flower boys for my Aunt's wedding. It was a strong reminder of how times have flown by. The dinner itself was fun because there were a lot of activities involving the crowd, though others may find it hindering their process of eating the food. Hahaha.. Anyway, Sulyn found in Perryn a perfect husband and I wish them both happiness.
Next week, it will be Jianyong's wedding. On behalf of AOM, I wish him and his wife a life of eternal happiness. Hopefully, when he comes back on lesson in Feb, he will sing better. Hahha..
Yah.. it's times like these you wonder.... When is it my turn? =P

Passion..
Today's topic sprang out of my head while I was watching this TV programme. It was actually a variety show or rather a singing competition. There were some issues involved and one of the competitor had to withdraw due to some reasons.
The farewell was elaborate. Actually not. It was touching. I think everyone cried. A lot of touching words were spoken. But one important thing was certain... the passion that everyone had for singing was there to be seen. The way they put it, these competitors do not care about the prize money or the fame that comes about with it. All they wanted to do was to share their music with the world.
This issue seems to be bugging me for quite some time. I think locally... It doesnt seem to be the case at all. I think money, fame and the rest of the more definite things come before passion. I shall not name names here but our local competition Project Superstar, I know of a few contestants who actually threw a lot of their savings on themselves. Yes.. the richest wins!! Are we in singing for the love of it?
Another time I came upon this forum about learning singing. Some of the members were discussing which school should they join to learn singing. The reasons for discussing some particular schools were because they believe these schools they mentioned would give them a better shot at stardom than others. Interesting?
It's as good as telling me that if I wanna play football, I must play for Manchester United. If I dont get such an option, then I would rather boycott football in my lifetime. There are millions of people with that passion for football, so much so that they are willing to play at lower leagues, getting measly pay just to get a game.
I can say that I am blessed with passionate musicians here at The Art of Music. We are all here because we love music. No doubt about that. There is no greater joy in just doing the things you love. Like Xiaozhi like to quote.. "Follow your Bliss..."

Round-up for 2007
Happy New Year to all!! Let me just do a final round up of the year 2007 before we look forward to 2008. I will do it in a fun way. I guess no one likes reading one big chunk of information. Alright, let's go!!
Person of the Year : My Mum (For everything she has done to support me throughout this year)
Hobby of the Year : Prawn Fishing (It should have been Dota.. but Dota has been increasingly grown serious, so it cant be a hobby. Hahaha...)
Decision of the Year : Acquiring the services of Shuying as Music and Development Manager (I dont even think implementing the special marketing plan comes close. And I know Steven and Lawrence can attest to this.)
Mentor of the Year : Lawrence (I have learnt so much over the year. And the help he has given me is invaluable.)
Best Moment of the Year : Winning the Genesis Award in the 2007 NUS Entrepreneurship Awards (It's amazing, the whole event was just like the Star Awards.. Hahaha..)
Worst Moment of the Year : Having to resign from Boon Lay Sec Choir (They wanted a medal for SYF, I got them one. But they want to play politics, so I quit. The students are wonderful though)
Most Exciting Moment of the Year : Securing the big money loan in the very last minute. (I am so going to put this into the book about AOM if I ever write one. I am sure Steven agrees it was dramatic. =) )
Sportsperson of the Year : Roger Federer (He shows you that it is still possible to improve while at the top. I hope he wins the French Open in 2008 to complete his Grand Slam.)
Team of the Year : Manchester United (Then again, it will probably be the same answer every year. Hahaha...)
It has been a wonderful 2007. Okie.. I agree there are ups and downs. But it wouldn't be interesting if everything was plain-smooth sailing, isn't it? =) Now.. let's all welcome the New Year and this is the Year where The Art of Music is going to stamp its mark. Glad to see Xiaozhi, Tingren and Augustine back again. =)
