The Tipping Point

Sorry all for the slow update again. It has been a hectic few weeks. But here at The Art of Music, we are pleased to inform you all that the school is growing, the timetable that Kah Leong has newly constructed is filling up and the phone is starting to get warmed up. Today I am going to talk about The Tipping Point.

The Tipping Point is a book I have read which talks about epidemics in businesses and the power of word-of-mouth phenomenon. In fact, I have seen something similar happening closer to heart. The starter of this so-called epidemic happens to be Amos Ang, and it has crazily reached further than how much he would have imagined.

The subject of the particular epidemic is this particular phrase, "How I feel?" or "How you feel?". Amos was the one who started using this particular phrase when he was learning at The Art of Music probably 1-2 years ago, before he got enlisted to the army.

But somehow these 2 phrases are being kept alive and I am hearing it almost every week. The whole Dota gang kinda use it, including Isaac. My daidi friends, Tuan in particular used it. Recently, I was playing mahjong with some friends and this particular guy whom I met for the first time kept using these 2 phrases. Maybe I am part of the "messenger team" that allows this epidemic to grow. But from this incident, it really shows the power of word-of-mouth marketing. Even habits and the way people talk can be affected.

What will happen after this? Maybe everyone in Singapore might be using this phrase? Hmm.. then how will Amos feel? How he feel?.... Hahaha.....

________________________________________________________________

On a personal note, there are a few things that I wanna say. Firstly, I admit I am not all that good in Dota. But that does not make me a feeder. Simply, it means I do not have that much time to play. Rumoured that even Gurmit Singh wasnt that God-like of a player. For those who like to trash talk others and calling them names just because the others don't have much time to practise this game, please wake up your ideas and spend more time in other aspects of your life. They need your attention.

Secondly, when it comes to the crunch, I will definitely not be found wanting. Whether it's chinese chess, football, volleyball, choir... The league system that Steven came up with.. I thought it was not a bad idea. It feeds the competitor within me. I will still not have enough time to practise, but at least I look at the games with a different perspective and that has allow me to pick up more wins than anyone has expected. Luck did NOT play a part. The league table doesnt lie. In fact, all the table did was to point out that Ziyang is indeed a very very good player. And I think everyone acknowledges that fact.

Lastly, I do enjoy my Dota sessions every Friday. And I hope it stays that way without people being very preoccupied with the "points, feeders, pawning, owning, frags, not happy 1 V 1" kind of issues. Everyone is out for fun, but I don't think it's that nice if people like JD is insulted week in week out. I end my case. If the sessions come to a point where I don't seem to enjoy it anymore.. I will opt out.

Exams have finally ended. Hope all of you have done well. See all of you soon!!

My Birthday...

The time now is 1.27am, which means it's officially 20th of Nov. Yes. it's my birthday and I guess it's a good time for me to update this blog as well as taking this chance to reflect. =) Usually I dont celebrate my birthday so I guess this particular year it won't be an exception.

Yeah.. time really flies. It seems like ages ago since I first started teaching some of these students who are still learning here at The Art of Music. I first know Xiaozhi when she was a Sec 2 Student in River Valley High School and now she's already studying in NUS. I first taught Guotong and Wanxian when they in RGS and currently both of them are taking their A levels. Yes.. I din forget Agnes and Bettina. You 2 were taught by me ages ago as well. =)

Blogging this entry makes me feel very old. And it doesnt help matters when Xiaozhi and Tingren always call me 'Uncle'. Anyway, it has been a wonderful year. Yes.. I agree it has its ups and downs but I have nonetheless come through it a bit wiser. Err.. I hope.. haha..

__________________________________________________________________

I had just finished a celebratory performance at Republic Poly with Pioneer Sec Choir and yes.. I think they did well. They didn't rush for the second song and obviously everyone was quite pleased.

I was telling Calin just now about how things have shaped to the way they are currently and I am quite amazed myself actually. I first took up a choir assignment at Boon Lay Sec 18 months ago because AOM wasn't doing well and I think the extra instructor funds would ensure our survival. However, after bringing them a medal in the SYF competition in Apr 2007, I really relish the challenge of doing it again.

Anw, the marketing plan is starting to take effect. I am glad and I think that idea was the best birthday present Lawrence could have given me. Haha.. With that I wish everyone the best and let's all make the dream of a music hub in AOM a reality!! =)

Some Updates.. Good and Bad News..

Hi everyone!! It's been some time since I last update the blog. Alright.. I think it's my job to keep all you AOM members updated on what's been going on and what is going to happen.

As all of you can see.. the website is already spotting some changes. Do you all like the changes? A new feature once this website is fully completed would be........... everyone can shop and pay their fees online!! Shop meaning you can buy some AOM Polo-Ts and merchandise as well as keyboards. =)

Some bad news first.. We are not going to celebrate this year's anniversary with another concert. I cant tell you the reasons yet but we decided to hold a grand concert once every 5 years. So for the annual ones.. maybe all of you can suggest something.

Next for some good news.... The school is growing... much faster than i have ever seen it grow in my 2 years in charge. I think the credit goes to Steven, Yee Le, Shuying, Lawrence and my backroom team. Steven.. for the SEO and the website.... Yee Le for the funds to make that possible, Lawrence for the incredible super plan idea. Shuying... for rendering your services to the school at a time where a lot of other people would have given up on it. My backroom staff of shareholders... thank you for all your support in the dark ages. All these wouldnt be possible without everyone.

And the students.. for those who really stand by me during the politicking that was happening, I really appreciate it. And I know.. this music empire, The Art of Music, will always have a place for all of you. Weiming.. thanks for kick-starting that super plan for AOM.

A lot of you all are almost back from your exams. Hope to see all of ya soon!!

New Marketing Plan..

I think people around me are now very excited about the new marketing plan I have for AOM. Especially Weiming. Haha.. However it was kind of a forced choice because I simply don't think anything else would have worked as effective as this.

For those wondering what the plan is.. just approach me or Shuying or Kah Leong to ask. Both of them can also tell you a lot about it. =)

Give AOM about 5 months. By then.. we shall celebrate!! =)

When Mum meets Lawrence

Okie.. My mum did not really meet Lawrence face to face. But my mum saw the plan that Lawrence has shared with me. The first word that came out of the mouth was, "Genius!" And it's the first time I have seen her gave such a reaction.

And yes.. I agreed. After Lawrence shared with me about The Secret Plan.. I keep feeling that.. it's amazing. I am sorry I cant really share the secret plan here. And you cant really ask me about it.. I just wanna make everyone very curious here. Hahahaha...

Today has been a wonderful day. I throughly enjoyed myself in class. It's a session of loads of fun and laughter with Clare, Sylvia and Min Ru. After that, Yee Le treated me to a nice Japanese dinner. Thank you so much. I ended the day in Lawrence's office discussing about The Secret Plan. Nice to see Adrian again at the meeting with the rest of the core group.

My cousin Fabian just got married on Monday. Maybe I will post some pictures I took on that day in the next entry.

I know exams are here again. Good Luck to those taking their A Levels, namely Meiling, Guotong, Wanxian, Jingkai and Paula. I guess it shouldnt be a problem to all of you. With the exception of Wanxian who is in RJC, the rest of them are from HCI. I guess i dont have to explain more. And to the rest who are taking their final year exams.. good luck!!

This is for all of you...

Yes.. surprises of all surprises.. I won the Genesis Award for Traditional Business at the 2nd Entreprenuership Awards 2007. I would like to share this award with all my team members here at AOM and all those who had, in one way or another, supported us during these 2 years. I couldnt have done it without all of you.

First up.. I would really like to thank my mum for all the support and help she has shown over the years. At times when others will tell their kids to stop dreaming and start finding a job, she allowed me the space to do whatever I want within my means. The ideas and energy she has given over the 2 years is very much appreciated. This award might mean nothing to a lot of people, but I know how much it meant to her knowing that I won it. Thank you.

Secondly, to all the team AOM members. Amos Ang, Clara, Tiffany, Meryl, Lilian, Augustine, Steve, Yisong, Guotong, Wanxian, Gwen, Pristine, Sylvia, Minru, Clare, Jeffrey, Meiling, Jingkai, Tingren, Xiaozhi, Agnes, Bettina, Cindy, Priscillia, Zhenxuan, Kelly, Arielle... I probably cannot list them all out. But thank you so much. The journey would be less livier without all of you. Your care and concern is very much appreciated.

An important member of team AOM I would like to dedicate this award to is Shuying. I know at times it seems like a lonely and tiring battle, but I appreciate your dedication and energy to the cause of The Art of Music. AOM has grown quite a lot during this 1 month and it's largely by your efforts. I am proud to have you on the team and I know our efforts are going to get us to that vision.

Thirdly, I would like to extend my appreciation for all my business associates and good friends. Steven, thank you for introducing me to Infinity Chapter. Though I may not have gotten a lot of referrals, but it has allowed me to know all the business talents we have at Infinity Chapter. And your help in the revamp of the website, including the effort in getting the grant from the government body for this project, I cannot thank you enough.

To Yee Le, thank you for opening my eyes to a whole new world of doing business. To a fresh entreprenuer, your enthusiasm and appetite for greater things has allowed me to change my perspective a lot. And the website revamp is also not possible without your help. Looking forward to create a bigger world of music education in AOM with you!

To Lawrence, thank you for the care you have shown over the past few months. Your ideas and advice has certainly not fallen on deaf ears. I acknowledge your help in all the printing matters as well. Your professionalism, discipline and efficiency is a great example for all. A mentor and a great friend.

Mengtze has also been an integral part of this journey. The knowledge you have given me in terms of banking has allowed me to understand and put all that into my advantage when dealing with the banks. And thank you both you and Fiona for all the nice dinners you both have conjured up at your place. And yes.. your Wii is very very entertaining. Hahaha...

I have so many people to thank that it's going to take me days. Shall do a brief one. =) To Roger, thank you for all the legal advice you provided. It protected me from some trouble makers trying to create chaos in AOM. I was down at one point. Now.. it's time to launch the counteroffensive.
To the daidi kakis, thanks for keeping my sanity intact at times when it seems I am losing myself. Your energy and 'donations' are very much appreicated. =P
Thank you Betty for sharing The Secret. You have created a powerful disciple who is trying at times to share what you have taught with the world. Thank you all my dota friends for all the fun-filled times at IRC. I will continue to pawn you all. =P
Thank you Han Zheng for all the help you have rendered in making sure I could cut costs. And thank you for securing my purchase of the new house in Yishun. Yeah...
And to Sugianto, thank you for getting all the stuff and links i need to understand the media and entertainment world better. For those many more out there... I thank you.

Lastly, thank you Jigsaw for your support and love.

May we continue to make AOM the Music Haven we all envision it to be.

Tingren and Xiaozhi

Hi all.. I know it's been quite some time since I have updated this blog. I have been rather busy. I cant really say what I am busy with but all of you will be able to see the changes soon. Today's entry is dedicated to Tingren and Xiaozhi, and it's my way of saying thanks to them.

Xiaozhi just came back from Yellowstone, USA and immediately asked about AOM and wanting to come back. She has been a student of mine for quite some time now, stretching all the way back to the time when I was teaching from home. Thank you for the new cushion you left at the waiting area and thank you for the gratitude rock you gave me.

As for Tingren, she never stopped showing concern for AOM. I really appreciate her for that. I have told her, she is a part of AOM's past, present and hopefully will be a significant part of its future.

I know the concerns you both have raised over the past few weeks and let me assure you, after this major overhaul, AOM will become even better and provide even higher quality of classes for everyone. I am the leader of this whole organisation and am called upon to do the work of leadership. There are times when I do feel very isolated because I have to make some decisions alone. So i need all of your support. Thank you once again.

We are slowly but surely reaching our status as a world class music education hub. See all of you there.

2nd Entrepreneurship Awards 2007

Yes.. I am proud and honoured to be adjudged as one of the finalists of the 2nd Entrepreneurship Awards 2007. I seriously don't know what to say when I first heard the news. It was like surprised yet bewildered at the same time. Why me? Maybe I did some stuff others didn't dream of doing. Did I? Maybe the reality will start siking i once I received the awards. Hahaha...

Anyway, I have to extend a big thank you to Michael E. Gerber. I think he really changed the way I look at my business. I finally understand why I am here all these while and what I need to do to get this juggernaut by the name of The Art of Music moving. I now know I can and I will do it.

Honestly.. I think it's funny.. But if you all do read or ever watch Return of the Condor Heroes, I think I felt like Yang Guo. Hahahahaha.. All these weird encouters i have along the way have shaped the way the business is today. Of course, I am who I am today because of all these experiences. No doubt I have learnt so much over the course of these few years. I have empowered people only for them to backstab me in the end, I have met business associates who are willling to sweat blood for my cause, I am glad to have students who I have regarded as close friends and I have a bunch of friends and loved ones who would stand by me in times of trouble.

It wasn't like that just 18 months ago. I have to endure the pain of not being able to have friends around me. The business was hanging unto me like a dysfuctional family. My mum and I were not on very good terms because of one particular irritating lady whom my mum still bear so much anger and hatred upon till today. I do not had enough sleep. I became a bit fatter than i am now. How 18 months can change your life. Looking back... I am glad I made a few important decisions along the way. Maybe it was meant to happen. Maybe I attracted it. =)

Thank you to all who have taught me so much over the past few months. And yes.. that includes the students. They are the ones whom i have learnt a lot from. I appreciate every single input by everyone, everyday. I am learning everyday, and I make it a point that I do. =) Love ya all.

It is really amazing..

Mattie.. I read ya blog and one particular about you slamming the law of attraction. Hahahaha... The debate probably goes on about whether it really works.. but for me as long as I believe it... I am more than happy to make things happen.

Just a few days ago.. something miraculous happen. Hmmm.. for most of the people it might be considered a very big coincidence. But I guess probably only Sheila knows. I cant talk much about the incident, cos it's too complicated for me to explain it here. Sheila.. if you are reading this.. go on.. you can smile to yourself about that.

I am still wondering how did it all happen.. okie.. but anw.. all of you.. dun ask me about it. I wont explain it either. Hahaha.. shall keep all of you in suspense. Maybe when the time is ripe/right/wadever...

And i went for Lilian's dance performance on friday. Cos i had a meeting before that.. when i rushed to UCC.. I just missed her item. Grr... and the usherer just refused to budge and let me in. No matter how i persuade/beg/force/coerce.. he just refused me entry. Shucks.. I really do not get my way everytime. Hahaha.... But i did catch her for the grand finale. I am very impressed with the standards for the whole show. I was tired.. coupled with me not being a very dance dance person.. i probably could and should have fallen asleep.. but i din. Maybe Sheila was a great companion. But i assure you.. i enjoy the performance as well. Yes.. any more dance concerts.. please invite me!! Hahaha...

Got new additions to my family. No.. I did not give birth.. i don't think I can do that anyway. It's 2 lovely baby dogs given to me by Lovynn.

Ain't they lovely? Now.. Lilian... i can ask you for some advice on making sure the dogs grow healthily. =) Alright.. anw wanna come to my house to see the dogs can make some advance booking on this. Hahhaha.. Take care everyone@@!! =)

Events..

Recently the school has quite a number of events, ranging from F.A.M.E to taking part in Singapore's Earth Fest 070707. Here are some pictures.. Actually all of them my brother are in there. Hahahaha....

Okie.. This first pic was at Hwa Chong Institute where Get High Concert was being held. And that's Chen Fengling with my brother. I didnt attend that particular concert. But i heard Zhiyang did a great job in directing this concert. Good job!! =)

This picture wa taken at the Singapore's Earth Fest 070707 or rather Singapore's version of Live Earth Concert. I am very glad to be part of this event. I always think I should do my part for this beautiful Earth we live in. There's Maia Lee. Mark thinks that she got loads of personality and i totally agree. Knowing her personally would bring you different insight to the persona you see on stage.

Onto other things.... I have recently just bought a book called E-myth. Was walking in Adam Khoo's training centre when I saw it. Luckily for me.. Esley can get me that book at staff price. Hahaha.. It's a very interesting book. Hope to share with all of you once i finished reading it. Brings a lot of insight and things i can do to turn everything around. =)

Okie.. I gotta get ready to go for my Admiralty Sec Choir session already. See all of you soon. =)

All the best my friend..

On Saturday.. I went to the airport to send my friend Robin off. He will be working in Japan for an indefinite period which means it could be some years before I ever gonna see him again. Would like to thank him for all the help he has given me in enabling me to recruit both Priscillia and Carmen, and i wish him all the best in his work in Tokyo.

Managed to catch up with a few friends at the airport as well. Robin was my secondary school classmate and naturally a few of us were there to send him off. I just couldnt describe how I really feel about him leaving. He has been a permanent fixture every Fri when we go Bukit Timah for our weekly Dota. Maybe it's not about the Dota. Maybe it's just sad to see a friend leaving for such a long period of time. I have a few friends who happen to leave for overseas as well and it's been quite some time since i have seen them.

I have not seen Jiajia ever since she left for Canada 5 years ago. I have not since Jiahui since she went back to Australia 1 year ago. It's been soooooo long since Daisy went to Britain for studies. SHe might be back.. but I still haven get the chance to meet up. Yuxian has been missing for over a year since leaving for Perth. Hahaha.. And Siangwei is in Beijing for the past 6 months. There are many more.. in fact.. i really lost count. Let's hope they come back soon.

Maybe it's like that. When we reach a certain age.. we realise that parting becomes a common fixture in our chronological calendar. Oh well... I treasure all my friends. And my previous relationship allowed me to learn to treasure my friends even more.

Alright.. I will post some pictures that my brother took at Live Earth and update them. Till then....

It's been quite some time..

Yes.. it's been quite some time since I have updated my blog. And it's been quite some time since I have met up with Peter. I finally got the chance to do so last Tuesday when I went to the new-look Music Clinic to find him. Nice place, I must say. It's has been 3 or 4 years since I last saw him.

I think the chat with him was great. Of course there were a lot of updates on each other's lives. But I am thankful that he was willing to offer mentorship in terms of our artiste management department. His vast experience will certainly be of great help to our cause.

He was telling me he has been teaching for 12 years. And at times, he does feel a little tired. After counting.. I realise I have been teaching for the past 6 years!! Oh my.. time really flies. And yes.. I agree with him that I needed a break. Can someone kindly offer a good solution to this problem?

Had my first session with Admiralty Secondary School Choir on Friday. I think they will probably need a major revamp. When your choir is left with only 13 members.. I think something must be done. Something drastic. I am going to turn this around the way I did with Boon Lay Sec. I love challenges!! =)

School has started again for some of you out there. And this later half would mean some of you would face major examinations towards the end of the year. All the best to all of you. I know some of you are soo busy that you have no time to come down. So do hope to see ya all soon. Take care!!

In Office..

It's 7.41pm right now.. and I am in IHUB office in Jurong doing some stuff. I know it's been quite some time since I updated the blog so I wanna apologize to all the avid readers out there (if there's any.. ahahhaa).

Just came back from signing the discharge for the accident form that I was involved in a few months ago. So now trying to do up some work. Anyway.. I wanna congratulate a few students for a few shows well done during this June period. Thank you Steve, Kah Leong, Jemie, Weiming and Lovynn for the FAME show. And thank you Sabrina and Simran for the Kids' World Prince and Princess show. Though I personally did not go down to watch the 2nd show, I received good reviews from the organiser.

Wanna welcome Clare back from her trip in Finland. Hope she had a great time there. Still waiting for xiaozhi to come back from Yellowstone though. Heard that she ran into some problems with the park rangers over there. Dunno what's going on. Evreyone is going on holidays!! And I haven even get the time to sit down to arrange my trip to Canada. Hahahaha...

Alright.. Shall try to update my blog again VERY SOON. Cos I gotta rush for a meeting now at Suntec. Will let you all know the details of that. It's obviously exciting stuff!! =) Take care all of you.

Cough Cough..

Sick for the past 4 days. Couldnt teach or rather could not even step out of the house!! But after going to the doctor, at least I learnt something out of this illness. It all started with me having this horrendous sore throat. After that, fever set in. Usually, I try to will my illness away. (Dont try if your illness is really serious. =P) But the fever was bad so I had no choice but to pay my dear doctor a visit.

As usual, the wait is very long. But I always insist on coming to see this doctor. The wait is long because everyone comes to see him. And he takes his time with every patient to make sure everything is thoroughly checked. He does explainations as well, to make sure the patients understand their illnesses and knows what can be done to lower the chances of a reoccurance. Everytime I come to visit him, I learn something new. I think it's important because you would want to be more responsible to your own body in the future.

He also taught me lots of valuable lessons indirectly. It has been 5 years since he ever had a proper holiday. He works from Monday to Sunday and yes, Public holidays as well. Consultations fees are reasonable and he do not mark up the prescribed drugs by a crazy margin like what other doctors do. So I did ask him on one particular visit why he set this clinic in this particular way where he would earn less and have minimal rest. What I heard touch me. He said he wants to be here for every patient. And he loves to be able to help his patients fight their illnesses. Not for fame nor fortune. Just what a doctor is supposed to do. Save lives.

And of course, I fully understand. I set up The Art of Music and model it closely to what he has done. I am a vocal teacher. My job is to bring up the singing abilities of all my students. Yes, that's my job. Not for fame nor fortune.

The visit 4 days ago actually gave me the chance to know that as an adult, if we have a throat infection, usually we would not get fever like kids do. Because our immune system is stronger. But if we do develop a fever like I did 4 days ago, then it meant that the immune system has lost the plot. Yes.. too weak to do anything. Maybe I was too stressed. He did asked me to go for a short holiday. And I was planning to go to Canada. Hahhaa... Maybe I should take his advice and go for a fortnight? But I would miss all my students... hahahaahh.. and that's the truth.

I am feeling better now. Still coughing but at least I am able to step into The Art of Music for the first time in 4 days. Do take care of yourselves. The weather's not too good as well. And drink more water!! =)

Nothing to rant about..

Sometimes you wonder whether it's a good thing if there's nothing to rant about. Been rather busy these few days that I had to give my BNI Conference a miss after I paid for it. Hahaha.. And it wasnt cheap. Maybe I should manage my time a bit better. =)
Went for a BBQ last friday. It's been some time since I have done that. Felt really good.
And the website is now in the process of being recreated. Steven has finally started work on this. So let's wait patiently to see some of the new changes. Would like to welcome Carmen to Team AOM. She is stationed at my desk in IHUB in Jurong, but if there's a chance, would like everyone to meet her.
Let me go think about what to rant before I write my next entry. Hahaha.. Enjoy your holidays everyone. =)

Conductor's Workshop

I attended a conductor's workshop on Thursday. It's been quite some time that I have attended any lessons since graduating from NUS a few years back. Really enjoyed the sessions and it's really interesting because there were a lot of different viewpoints and pointers that I can take into consideration. I was struggling a little bit to make sure I dont fall asleep though.. Hahaha.. Cos I had to rush through a project late the night before. I learnt some new warm up exercises which i can share with all of you. =)

I would also like to thank Priscilla for helping me with the marketing and ideas. It's a shame that she had to leave after being here for only a while but she will always be remembered as part of Team AOM. All the best to her future endeavours.

Do grab a copy of Parents World this coming issue. I will be doing my write-in coloumn every issue from now on. Haha.. It is regarding learning, music and psychology. I am already enjoying it.

Mid years exams are either here or around the corner. Good luck to all of you!!

Music has no place for Politics

Yes.. Music has no place for Politics. My fellow conductor Leslie said there are times it cannot be helped. I understand. That's why I am not upset. And I appreciate his help all this while. After acheiving Bronze for BLSS in the SYF, I wont be there to continue my work with them anymore. It's a shame. They do have potential. But I feel better than good. Hahaha.. I am laughing. At least I wont be caught in the middle of some power struggle which I seriously cannot believe unfolding. And I can't bear to see the students being emotionally manipulated left and right, not knowing who to really trust. I have never really gotten the chance to work with the kids the way I would love to because I did not have the power to decide the sessions I have to come. Everything was arranged by the teachers. Even when we were nearing the competition period, I was asked not to come for a quite a big chuck of sessions. Thus some of the students might have misunderstood that I have slacken.

I probably wont get the chance. So I have to say my final farewell to the kids I have grown to love in BLSS. Good luck for all your future endeavours. Hope all of you remember what i said about everything. Stop harping on whatever you all choose to believe. Stop all the finger pointing and accusations. It doesnt really matter. At the end of your academic life, no one would remember what medal you got for SYF or whether you came from a top-notch choir. Your studies and academics are the ones that are going to carry you very far in life. Work hard. It would be great to see all of you being successful at the end of the day. Nothing would probably beat that feeling.

On a happier note, I went for judging yesterday at ABN AMRO bank's annual singing competition. Had loads of fun. The team that ABN has is really dynamic. The people there are friendly to say the least. Thank you Mengtze for inviting. Had a great time.

Will be attending Paul and Angela's wedding on monday. Congrats to the both of them. Angela had been a great help during my Uni days and I appreciated it. =) All the best to the both of you in the future.

SYF

My Choir got a bronze in the recent SYF competition. I have to say I received the news of the results with mixed feelings. Feelings of relief because we still managed a medal after making so many mistakes during our repertoire, but feelings of disappointment because I knew it could have been much much better.

To my Choir students, I was not kidding when I asked all of you to aim for the sky. Looking at what we could have achieved if we did not make the mistakes, whatever I had asked you all to look forward to was reasonable. I never had any doubts what you all could have come up with. And Hye Na is right. The results re-affirmed my views that you all do have potential.

I don't think as a choir, we believed in ourselves enough to create that winning mentality that all the top choirs in Singapore have. Everyone is talking about not getting COP and all that. The seniors that came back to help are worried we cant get a medal. And that's never my intention to mention it. I dont think I am creating complancency. Because if we dont believe we can be a top choir, we will never be there. To my choir members, whether you think you can or you cant, either way you are right. This SYF shows you could have mixed with best but your mentality and nerves failed you. But I think it's okie.. Treat it as a learning experience. We shall scale the height in 2 years' time.

And for the Sec 4s... Please bring this winning mentality to your studies. Tell yourself you can do it. Because confidence is winning half the battle. I hope to see all of you do well. Very well. ALl the best for your O levels!! =)

Volleyball

Maybe i can start writing a series of entries regarding different sports. Hahaha.. Went to play Volleyball last Wed. And my wrists still hurt a little now due to the digging. Been 8 years since I actually played that game. Hmmm.. I was so disoriented. Ran all over the place. Luckily all the rest of the players were friendly, and I am trying to get back to the groove of the game. opefully I will be able to do much better this week.

Team AOM has been hit by some bugs going around recently. Steve is down with chicken pox and that means we cant do much recording for this 2 weeks. Recording has been fun though. And Augustine had sore throat and that affected his performance in campus. So all of you please do drink more water ad take good care of your health. It is of utmost importance.

Boon Lay Choir is going for SYF this thursday. So i wish them all the best as well. Should be good. Will update all of you on that as well. Meanwhile, love music!! =)

Golf

Donald Trump wrote about it. Mengtze talked to me about it. Maybe I should go and take it up. Before anyone decides that golf is a game for middle-age men with tummies, check Tiger Woods. I was up till 6.15am this morning watching the Masters, and witnessing how Zack Johnson won that tournament, pushing Tiger Woods to joint 2nd.

I used to think that golf is some non-contact sport with minimal excitement but I have to admit after watching it, I am wrong. Yes, it is a non-contact sport, but I can tell you the excitement can leave you breathless. The tension that comes with every putt. It is a sport that requires you to understand your surroundings, the conditions, the terrain. It might seem easy to putt a ball from 2m out, but nope.. it takes a lot of concentration and technical awareness just to do that.

Let me try it out when I have the time. Then I can share the experience with all of you. Hahahhaa....

Sliding Doors

The title of this entry is the same title of the movie starring Gwyneth Paltrow. It's a very old movie but I suggest if any of you have the time, do rent the video for it. The movie will show 2 versions of the life of this particular lady just because she managed or did not managed to catch this particular train home. That very moment of being able/unable to board the train changed her life completely. Shall not spoil the fun here by saying anything more. DO watch it!!

The reason for talking about Sliding Doors is because I have finally understood. I finally understand the power of The Secret, the power of our minds and the power that exists within us. Where is the link, you might ask. I have to agree that incidents that change lives are meant to happen in the way our hearts truly wants it. I was at first very upset with whatever that happened a few weeks ago. Then, I realised it had to happen. Only with the taking place of that particular incident was I able to achieve what I really want. It was a well-needed wake up call. I was too caught up with all that's happening around. Corine, if you are reading this, I hope the incident will not be a degenerative pill. This is still going to be a very good year for you.

So sometimes, people do say, ' In life, you win some, you lose some.' Yupz.. you can never win it all because there are times where it's impossible to have everything. BUT all of you remember this.. the losing side of the story is still not a lost. The lessons you learn are priceless. I would believe sometimes it's more important that the winnings. And all these losses could be a prelude to something bigger, something your heart truly desires. I still know what I want. =)

Go forth.. Understand what all of you really want. Focus upon it. Put your thoughts only unto that. Initial incidents might not seem to go your way. But remember Jack Canfield's lesson... Keep moving.. and you will definitely reach you destination, whatever your heart desires.. if you are willing to take the first step in faith.

Ericia and S-League

No No... Ericia and S-League has nothing in common. I met up with Ericia the other day before going for my maiden S-league live match since its inception in 1995.(if you consider that a common thing) Ericia was from the same performing group with me in 2002 along with people like Kelly Poon, Mei Mei, Jiaxin, Jay, Stan and many more. It's been quite some time since we have met up. She has actually opened her own shoes boutique. Just to advertise for her here, it's called Queen D located at Raffles Xchange. Wanna thank her for the offer of help she has given for AOM. =)

As for the S-League match, it's really great fun. I mean watching anything live is so much different compared to watching it from TV. The shouting, the screaming, the atmosphere felt really really good. So good I felt like running onto the pitch to play my part. Yes, dun assume S-league is boring or anything like that. Go and try it out live. It is an experience in itself.

I know I keep talking about the change that will take place with the website. Steven is working on it already. SO please be a little patient. =)

And yes, played Monopoly with Steve, Weiming and Bere the other day. Hahaha.. kinda fun. Please come down more often!! Love everyone!! =)

300 and The Value of saying No

It has been an unforgettable weekend. I reckon it will be etched in my memory for years to come. But I have come through it learning a really important lesson in life. Part of the lesson was learnt watching the movie 300 with Mengtze and Fiona.

There was this particular scene in 300 which shows how the young Spartans were taught to fight. They mentioned that you first fight with your head, then with your heart. I think that this statement is absolutely spot on, regardless of the context you are putting it in. I think there a lot of times in life you need to think it through before plunging in. But once you have decided it's workable, you wil have to dedicate your heart and soul into it.

The incident that happened on that fateful Friday taught me the value of saying No. I could have refused to take up the offer. Maybe things wouldn't have turned out the way it is now. But now, some things will be irreversible. I have always been too soft in this respect and continue to acede to others' requests. I have learnt it the hard way. This lesson will truly stay in my living memory.

I wanna thank Steven, Yee Le and Lawrence for helping out on Friday. You 3 are busy men and I appreciate it. Especially Steven. Thank you so much for lending the car and you had to take the cab to the meeting. It's through adversities like these that you find your true friends. Wanna apologize to Fiona for missing her birthday party. I have tried my best.

Maybe it was meant to happen. I believe so. The Secret taught me so as well. Then I shall wake up. I shall move on. I shall not be affected. I shall stay happy. If it's meant to be, then nothing can stop it.

KFC and Music?

Hi everyone.. I know it's been ages since I have updated this particular page. Hahaha.. just kinda busy with loads of planning stuff. Anyway, the project to upgrade this website is under way, so there will be some new interesting features here.
Okie.. was talking to a friend the other day and was mentioning about how a small incident in life could actually affect the way your life's direction. So today, I shall talk about the link between KFC and music in my life.
I was probably 7 at that time. My mum brought me to KFC and there was a free gift that was a small magnetic keyboard. Obviously I was excited about my new toy and in time to come, I would bug my mum to allow me to learn the real stuff, which of course was the piano. Yes, I din look back ever since. I am grateful to KFC and even more grateful to my mum. Hahaha...
I would stress that sometimes the smallest decision we make in life would turn out to have the biggest effect. One thing leads to another, and before long, you are staring at something that you did not deem possible at any point of time.
And all my students out there, I know I have been very busy these few weeks. But rest assured, I still miss all of you!! I hope all of you are well settled in the new school year. =)

Top 3 Music Videos

Came up with this entry just to share with you my 3 favourite music videos of all time. If any of you have the time, do look up for it on youtube. Hope you willl enjoy it too!!

1. Bon Jovi - Always- Live in London 1995

Top of my list would definitely be this video. It is really fantastic and I believe Meiling can testify to that. It gives me goosebumps everytime I listen to it. And yes Tiff.. this has the power to make people tear.

2. Whitney Houston - One Moment in Time (Grammy Awards Live)

I think I have shown quite a number of you this video. No doubt, she is really really good. So good that she received a standing ovation. Like Steve and Augustine said after watching the video, ' We are singers too'. Hahaha...

3. A-mei - Ji De - Live in Concert

The most watched in AOM. For those who dunno this video, it's the version where Amei wore the nice white feather. I am sure all of you who have watched it love it as well.

Alright. Go and enjoy the videos. And Happy Lunar New Year!! =)

Feeling Great...

Went for judging at NTU yesterday with Tiff. Thought it was great fun. The organizers put the both of us at ease and we throughly enjoyed ourselves. Hope it was a interesting experience for TIff.
This website will go through another major revamp soon. And yes.. I mean REAL soon. And Kah Leong.. You will get your wish. Whatever that cannot stay in this beautiful site will be utterly removed. Watch this space!!
Haha.. after the few days at Kovan Hub for the roadshow.. I think I am curiously looking into Quantum Touch. For those students that tried it, I think it was a fascinating experience. Using your body quantum energy to heal yourself and others. Kinda like The Secret, except the healing is in a deeper understanding and level. I wanna thank all the students who had helped me in that roadshow. Was disappointed with the emceeing part though. Someone so talented and who is being misguided and not given the chance to gain more experience. Well.. everyone chooses their own destiny so good luck. Hahhahaa....
Just waiting for the end of Feburary. There is no D-Day though. Just the start of the empire.....

Xiaozhi's MSN nick(Follow you Bliss) reminded me that I should be looking at the bigger things I wanted. And not harp on some small stuff that other people are ridiculously trying to do.

The Place of Memories..

This particular place of memories that I am referring to happens to be National Junior College(NJC). And I was there just last Friday after being invited to judge in their annual Talentime contest. Well, I spent a fantastic 2 years in NJC and no one should ever doubt the fun and enjoyment you can get studying in a college. I am not here to argue whether studying in JC or Poly is better, but the sense of unity, vibrancy and endless bouts of fun and laughter in college are unmatched.

Maybe I was very involved in loads of activities, which explains why. Had around 5 CCAs during that 2 years, representing the college in Soccer, Volleyball and Chinese Chess. Was part of PA Crew as well as Health and Fitness Club. I think the integration to NJC's way of life was made much easier due to the fact that I had had around 100 plus former school mates from River Valley High School who chose to be in NJC as well. It was pure fun since Day 1.

Hmmm.. just a few thoughts running through. Anyway, Chinese New Year is approaching and I would like to wish all of you a very happy Lunar New Year. =)

Beautiful Month of January

It's been a fun-filled January, even though i have not seen some of the students since the new year. I guess some of you all out there are enjoying your new school, new friends and a new life. Come to think of it, January is almost over and I didn't really felt anything. I basically breeze through it.

Going to attend another of my friend's wedding. This is the 2nd one I am attending this year. And every month seems to be receiving more and more of the so called 'red summons'. Hmmm.. Mengtze's boss Valyn told me that in a few years' time, the invitations for weddings will drop... but then all the kids' birthdays invitations will arrive. Hahaha... Anw, I wish my 2 friends all the best in their new lives. One was my secondary school classmate while the other was a primary school fren and neighbour.

January is also the birthday month of 2 of my good friends Yunni and Steven. I have known both of them for 13 years. Steven, I have talked about him in one of my earlier posts so please do check that out. Yunni has always been there to give me support and I appreciate that. Sorry that I couldn't really reciprocate especially these 2 years cos of some complications in my life.

The Secret is getting more and more powerful. The more I use it, the more it seems to work. Hahhaa.. For this month, I attracted a lawyer who is a fanatic in music as well. He is really helping me loads and i appreciate him for that. Attracted this NLP trainer who definitely can add value to AOM. She believes in The Secret as well! I have to thank Lilian for this. =) And I am grateful for all the carpark lots I got without a single minute of waiting time, no matter how packed the place is. Hahhaa... Thank you.

Yes.. Beautiful January. And i believe it will be for the rest of 2007.

Not easy at the beginning..

Sometimes I don't know what I should really post. Because it's always the same. I am happy and everything goes my way. Hahaha..

Now.. it wasnt always like that. I was talking to MinRu about her problems. And I was spot on about her problem even though she din tell me anything. And she just feels that she cannot do anything to turn it around. She cannot even try to convince herself she should feel good.

The hardest part about practising The Secret is to not react to unhappy things around you. It may seems easy but we are still humans after all. And we also have a practical side to ourselves to keep us from thinking powerful thoughts.

And I have learnt that curiosity kills. Hahaha.. Sometimes you are happy.. juz stay away from things people write. Cause they are out to do you in. So sometimes I feel blog reading is not advisable. Like Betty says, 'I dun even read or watch the news. If there is something I need to know, someone wil let me know. So that I can stay happy.' I think that's smart. Cos a lot of times you realise there are more news that invoke that unhappy feeling of yours than not.

May all of you master your lives. It's not easy. But I believe all of you can do it. =)

2006 Year in Review

Happy New year to all!! Was kinda busy these few days so didnt have the time to write this entry a little earlier.

Just wanna take time to look at 2006 again. Hmmm.. i am not going to do this in some chronological order. I think it will take me a few hours to do that. So i probably will just mention a few stuff here and there.

2006 has been absolutely a roller coaster ride and definitely life-transforming. Never in my wildest dreams or thoughts would I know that the year would end this way. My life took a 180 degrees turnaround after June. Yes, after Italy won the World Cup, a few major things happen to me and AOM. Things that I believe will propel the school to greater heights, places where I wouldnt dare dream possible for the school in the first place.

In the initial few weeks I still could not cope with all the changes. Things din feel right. I thought my life was in turmoil. Going to the River Valley Alumni Dinner which leads to meeting up with Steven again and joining BNI ranks up there with some of the biggest decisions I have ever made in this year, and possibly my whole life. Sometimes it just take a moment of choice to change everything and yes this is it.

The next biggest influence that changed everything is The Secret. Yes... I know I have mentioned this tons and millions of times but it is still worth it. And because of The Secret, I have dedicated my life to spreading music tothe World as well as spending my time to research and share with others the power and potential of the human mind. Maybe it was fated, but I didnt really know why I took up Psychology in NUS. Now I know.. I am better equipped to handle The Secret and learn in depth about it.

If anyone told me that I have a chance to go back to 2006 to do some changes, what would I choose to do? Honestly, I am happy with the way things have turned out. I read Ben's blog and he mentioned some stuff, but I would still like to say that, no matter how things have changed, I have finally found myself and be able to set lifetime goals for myself to work towards. And simply because of that, I wouldnt want to change anything.

I built up a team from nothing. I can do it again, again and again. But this time round.. it will be an empire. And Team AOM, I know you all will be there to witness it and yes, be a part of it. We are already on our way.
